Frequently asked questions
Do I need an app to use this?
No. NFC is built into every modern smartphone — the same technology used for contactless payments. Any iPhone (XS or later) or Android phone from 2015 onwards can tap the tag and it will work instantly, straight from the lock screen in most cases.
What’s the difference between the three contact options?
The phone call option dials your number the moment the tag is tapped — best if you want the fastest possible response. The text message option opens a pre-written message ready to send, so the finder doesn’t have to think about what to say. The contact card option saves your details directly to their phone so they can call or message you in their own time.
What do I enter for the text message option?
At checkout you’ll enter your phone number and the message you’d like pre-loaded. We suggest something like: “Hi, I’ve found your pet and I’m contacting you through the tag on their collar.” You can include your pet’s name or anything else you’d like the finder to know.
Is there a subscription or annual fee?
No — the Tap & Contact Tag is a one-off purchase. Once it’s programmed and posted, there’s nothing more to pay. There’s no account to manage and no renewal to worry about.
Can I update my details after purchase?
Because your details are programmed directly onto the tag, they can’t be changed remotely. If your phone number changes or you’d like a different contact method, you’ll need to order a new tag. If you’d like the flexibility to update your details any time without ordering again, take a look at our Smart Pet Tag — it uses a web profile you can edit from your account.
Will it work on any phone?
Yes, on any NFC-enabled smartphone. This includes iPhone XS and later, and the vast majority of Android phones made since 2015. Older phones without NFC won’t be able to read the tag, but these are increasingly rare.
Is it waterproof?
The NFC chip itself is sealed and weather resistant — suitable for everyday outdoor use. The tag is handcrafted from the same materials as the rest of our range. We’d recommend avoiding prolonged submersion, but it will handle rain, mud, and the usual adventures without any issues.
What if I lose the tag or it gets damaged?
Simply order a replacement and enter the same details at checkout. We’ll programme a new tag and post it out to you.
